I don't know if this topic has been posted elsewhere, If so perhaps it can be moved to the proper place
I found this and thought it might be very useful to sad people like me that can't speak the Bulgarian language

I still have trouble with shaking my head when I mean yes and vice versa, a lifetimes habit is very difficult to change.

The car park attendants in Dobrich are great as you talk to them in Bulgarian they answer in English!Yesterday I was there and I said dobravechra to the attendant and he replied with "
Good Morning how are you"
?It puts a smile on my face as they like to practice their English skills with you.I have asked them where they learned their English and the answer is "
The TV"
!If I get it wrong in anyway when speaking Bulgarian they politlely correct me.

I totally agree with you speedgunner. I have also found that with the car park attendants in Dobrich. There are a number of members on the forum who over a period of time have suggested that one needs to be able speak the language to be accepted and be part of Bulgarian culture. That may be true, it may not, it's up to every individual to find out for themselves. I personally believe that the older generation will want to converse with their mother tongue, and I have found out from past experience that many understand what you are saying but are to shy to reply
The younger and future generation are a different breed and many of them want to become more Westernised so are quite happy to exchange
word's and dialog in English
For every day living I think most of us and most of them can and will get by, and I could give a number of examples where I have needed help with different projects and situations and the job has come to a satisfying conclusion. There will, I am sure be members who say that for more important things in life ie:- hospitals, doctors, police etc, it is important to be able to speak the language. I do not disagree and if the UK is going to be invaded by Bulgarian's next year then they will be one step ahead, if they are able to speak the Queen's English
