PostSubject: UK Tax Retruns    Fri Feb 17, 2017 7:25 am

Oh my word I am pulling my hair out here, this online tax lark is a nightmare.  This year before April I have to file a tax return as we now rent our house out in the UK so went through the procedure of registaring and waiting for a specific tax code but as yet 3 weeks later no code.  Everytime you log into the account they text you a new code, and I bet I am paying for that too. I tried ringing them but on hold for 35 minutes Angry   Surely it can't be that difficult to fill in a ruddy form. Angry Angry

Oh would you believe it, the URT letter came today with the code of course this was after i spent about 30 mins on the phone to the UK tax office only to be told I do not need to do any tax returns until Jan 31 2018  Honestly they have no idea, when I rang them in Apirl they told me I must fill in the tax form before 5th April 2017 but today they told me your 1st year is not up until after 5th april so we will be requiring a tax return form before 31 Jan 2018.  It seem because the property is in both names we both have to fill in seperate tax retrun forms.    but last year they said no, only one form needed.  Seems the right had does not know what the left hand is doing Angry   Still I got my code and will deal with the rest in due course.

La La You could be right there Bill, I was going to make a start and fill in and save the form but will just keep documenting the records until nearer the time.

Are you referring to Self Assessment tax return, because if you are and you are sending the completed form in, it has to be in by the end of the tax year (5th April) That is for year 2015/16 If you are doing it on line it has to be in by the 31st January 2017
For the year ending April this year you have to put in your return by 31st January 2018 in you are doing it on line, We have an agent that submits ours every year and it's not expensive

Thanks Willow yes it is for 2016 to 2017 so no need to do anything yet. Will do i on line myself but it's just the hoops you have to go through to get code etc, They don't make it easy but once I am set up i should be plain sailing g
